Bob Peterson, former Gophers sports information director, dies at 84

Peterson was an SID for the Gophers and, earlier, for St. Cloud State

Bob Peterson, former sports information director at Minnesota and St. Cloud State, died Sunday night because of cancer. He was 84.

Peterson retired in 1994 after 18 years as Gophers SID. He was a past president of the College Sports Information Directors of America and also is in the CoSIDA hall of fame and the "M" Club hall of fame.

Peterson joined the Gophers staff in 1975 after 10 years at St. Cloud State. He also worked as a sportswriter and editor and taught English and journalism early in his career. He had a master's degree from North Dakota and did post graduate work at Syracuse University.

He was the Gophers' third full-time men's SID following Les Etter (1930-44) and Otis Dypwick (1944-75).

Funeral arrangements were pending.
