Seth Feider of Bloomington, the only Minnesotan competing in the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship this weekend on Lake Mille Lacs, moved into first place Friday in the 50-person field with a two-day catch of 10 fish weighing 50 pounds, 3 ounces.

His second day catch of five was 24-11 — six ounces less than his first day — but still the day's best.

He leads runner-up Matt Herren of Ashville, Ala., by 1 pound, 12 ounces. Herren had the second-best total Friday, 24-9.

The other three anglers in the top five are Bassmaster Elite Series rookie Brent Ehrler of Redlands, Calif., (46-3), Greg Hackney of Gonzales, La., (45-15) and Tommy Biffle of Wagoner, Okla. (45-10).

After an off day Saturday, the tournament will conclude Sunday, with anglers taking off from Eddy's Resort at 6:40 a.m. The final weigh-in will be at 3:45 p.m. at Grand Casino Mille Lacs.

"On Sunday it's supposed to be windy, and I like the wind — it helps the bite," Feider said. "I'm having a lot of fun, and I'm excited that we're able to showcase how good Mille Lacs really is."
