Holli Pahlen was instantly attracted to this riverside homage to 1950s kitsch and bought it three years ago.

"I loved the craziness of the materials and the design," she said.

The previous owner, a fan of 1950s decor, custom-built the two-story home in 1989 on the Apple River near Somerset, Wis. The funky interior is a fusion of bubble-gum pink and cherry-red furnishings, chrome accents and stacks of vintage glass blocks.

The home sits on 1.3 acres and includes 476 feet of Apple River shoreline. "But it's not the part of the river where the tubers float by," Pahlen said.

Currently she is renting the river home for weekend getaways. "I just got a dock last week, and that's included in the sale, too," she said.

Other features:

• The 2,100-square-foot house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

• The funky kitchen and eating area has an authentic 1950s red Chambers stove, vintage booth and stools from a soda fountain and retro Coca-Cola wallpaper.

• Tall living-room windows face the river.

• The steel railing in the sunken living room was reclaimed from a 1920s bank.

• The master bathroom, which is decked in pink flamingo wallpaper, features a Jacuzzi tub and steam shower.

• The master bedroom has a gas stove and private balcony.

• A rooftop deck, which has a view of the river, is accessed by a spiral staircase.
