Blaine's girls' golf team recently handed Elk River its first Northwest Suburban Conference loss since 2008.
The Bengals shot a 169 on May 2 at Majestic Oaks, eight strokes better than the Elks. Sisters Hannah and Caroline Andrews shared medalists honors with a 41.
"We are 9-0 in the [conference]," Bengals coach Bill Davids wrote in an e-mail. "Perhaps the biggest difference is that we have seven varsity players capable of shooting quality scores."
Elk River swept the conference matches and 18-hole conference tournaments each year from 2009 to 2011 and was 7-0 going into the Blaine match.Janu's big weekend

Elk River/Zimmerman senior tennis standout Ryan Ness surpassed the 100-victory plateau earlier this season, another milestone in a dream season for the Elks.
Coach Randy Ronning estimated Ness is the sixth Elks player to win at least 100 career matches. Teammate Mitchel Brandell is second on the career victories list.
The team is ranked No. 1 for the first time ever. The Elks started this week 23-0-1.Former coach honored
