The Black Dahlia case has been a long-standing fascination for mystery lovers. It's unsolved. It happened in the era of film noir. James Ellroy brings it up from time to time. Murder is one thing, but the sort of ritualistic horror inflicted on Liz Short meant a fiend was at work. If he was smart enough to avoid capture, he probably did it again, had done it before, or both. No one knows. There have been a few books that purport to reveal the killer's identity. The most fascinating was by Steve Hodell, a former cop who wrote "Black Dahlia Avenger" in 2003. He hung the murder on a doctor who was A) considered a suspect by the cops at the time, B) had been bugged by the police in the course of their investigation; D) left the country before charges were brought, and D) happened to be the author's father.

The account of the cadaver dog's visit is here, at the Daily Mail. Blurry-but-disturbing photos, so be warned.

I read "Avenger," and it was a fascinating story. Ten years later people get red-faced on the internet defending his theory, and others get apoplectic tearing it down.

Then the author wrote another book that said oh, by the way, my dad was also the Zodiac killer. And the unsolved Lipstick murders in Chicago? Him too. That's where you lean back and think the fellow might have some unresolved issues with daddy.

CLEANSER Jeremy Clarkson takes his miniature car - more of a car suit, really - on the highway. If we may quote: AHHHHHH LORRY LORRY LORRY LORRY

DREAM ON North Korean propaganda video shows the US nuked from orbit by a Nork Spaceship to the tune of - well, you'll see. Obviously, it's all a dream. Or IS IT?

"Somewhere in the United States, black clouds of smoke are billowing," says one of the captions, according to the LiveLeak page. "It seems that the nest of wickedness is ablaze with the fire started by itself."

Hannah Arendt's phrase "The banality of evil" comes to mind whenever you see the work of the DRKP propaganda mills. You roll your eyes at the production values. Makes it easier to think about the "banality" part than the horrible conditions people endure in that state.

That said, it makes you wish we hadn't suspended development on the ZZTop shuttle. That thing would have blasted theirs into pieces, and with a better soundtrack.

IDIOTS News you can use: it is illegal to disable or otherwise tamper with the lavatory smoke detectors. Right? We all know that, right? Well:

Somehow I suspect that the passengers wouldn't have minded if they taped the idiots to their seats and continued on to the final destination, instead of landing and spending the night while the mechanics and attendants searched for - are you ready? This is a quote from the article - "hidden cigarettes on the aircraft."

That's the story as it ran on the HuffPo. Update: family already sentenced!

Even though this all happened because they were smoking on the plane. Got it.
