What's up, Gophers fans? Get to know our voters. You can see individual ballots, too. The votes are in. Here are the results of the fourth Big Ten Power Poll: 1. Ohio State (6-0): Eric Johnston says, "Still, in my opinion, the best team in America." My 2 Cents: When teams lose a national player of the year, they're not supposed to get better. But this Buckeyes squad probably has a higher ceiling than the 2009-10 team. Scary. 2. Illinois (8-1): Dan Owen says, "The Illini beat some impressive teams last week, taking down North Carolina and Gonzaga. Like I've said before, this team can be extremely potent on offense. Their faults lie mostly in an occasional lack of team play and weak inside play. My 2 Cents: If the Illini get consistent leadership from their veterans, they have the potential to make a serious run at the Big Ten title. 3. Michigan State (6-3): Former Gophers standout Damian Johnson says, "The Spartans have lost every big game so far." Nadine Babu adds, "It's no slouch losing to Syracuse and Duke, but I had to bump MSU down again this week (fifth). I do think this nonconference schedule will make them stronger in the long run, I just hope that it doesn't hurt their confidence in the short-term." My 2 Cents: In the last two seasons, the Spartans improved because of their tough nonconference slate. But the way they cracked against Syracuse's zone makes me wonder if this team has made another leap from last season. Still a good, dangerous team but missing the anticipated swagger. 4. Minnesota (7-1): Christopher Cramer says, "The Gophers are simply not very good right now. This team has to have Al Nolen playing and playing well in order to reach its potential. I have Minnesota rated low now (seventh), but they surely will rise when Nolen gets back. My 2 Cents: The Gophers play to the level of their competition. They don't know realize how good they can be. That's why Wednesday is a dangerous game. They can't continue to get up for big games and play relaxed against teams they're supposed to beat. 5. Purdue (8-1): Nathan Wickman says, "It feels like they're struggling, but really, the loss to Richmond is the only blip on their schedule. Wins last week at Virginia Tech and vs. Alabama might not be exactly marquee, but they are quality." My 2 Cents: This will never be the team it could have been with Robbie Hummel. But it's still capable of beating a lot of good teams. 6. Wisconsin (6-2): Mike Milinovich says, "Two losses at UNLV and Notre Dame (neutral-court) are pretty solid. They have to rely too much on Jon Leuer and Jordan Taylor." My 2 Cents: The Badgers have a lot of weaknesses. But the nonconference season always seems like a practice run for this team. Bottom line is that every team in this league will have its hands full when they travel to the Kohl Center. 7. Northwestern (5-0): My 2 Cents-Watch out for the Wildcats. Definite sleeper in this league. 8. Indiana (7-1): My 2 Cents-I think Tom Crean's squad is much-improved. Probably a year away from an NCAA berth. 9. Michigan (6-2): My 2 Cents-Talented young squad. 10. Penn State (7-2): My 2 Cents-Talor Battle can't do it alone. 11. Iowa (5-4): My 2 Cents-Huge rebuilding project in Iowa City (My bad).
