An 82-year-old man was hit by a vehicle at a busy intersection bordering Minneapolis and Columbia Heights and died, authorities said Sunday.

Allen G. Knutson, of Columbia Heights, was struck shortly after sunrise Tuesday and died about 4 hours later at Hennepin County Medical Center, according to the medical examiner's office.

The vehicle hit Knutson at Stinson Boulevard and 37th Avenue NE., roughly 3 miles from his home in the 5000 block of Monroe Street NE., the medical examiner's office added.

Knutson was riding south on Stinson and was hit in the intersection by a car heading east on 37th, said Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder. The driver stopped and cooperated with officers, Elder said.
