Scene from "Twelfth Night," by Shakespeare's Globe Theatre of London
A recent conversation got us thinking about what Shakespeare plays we have liked best, whether by visiting troupes or Twin Cities companies. The only time limit is your memory.
My quick list of 5:
1) "The Tempest," directed by Liviu Ciulei at the Guthrie in 1981-82 season.
2) "Twelfth Night," done in "original practice" style by Shakespeare's Globe Theatre of London at the old Guthrie in 2003
3) "Merchant of Venice," by Ten Thousand Things in 2006.
4) "Hamlet," by Theatre de la Jeune Lune, first staged in 2001.
5) "Macbeth," by visiting British troupe Out of Joint, at Guthrie Lab in 2005.
Quick, without overthinking, add your list here.
