Want a head-start on the office Oscar pool? Check out the Twin Cities Film Fest. The 10-day October series is the venue of choice for major film studios to premiere fall's most anticipated releases. The series hosted the regional debuts of the Bradley Cooper/Jennifer Lawrence dramedy "Silver Linings Playbook," Bruce Dern's wintry road movie "Nebraska," the all-star "August: Osage County" and the John Hawkes/Helen Hunt disability romance "The Sessions" among others. If you're more adventurous in your tastes, there are plenty of indie options as well — last year's slate featured 75 films. twincitiesfilmfest.org
