Get ready for the rooster

If you're excited about artist Katharina Fritsch's "Hahn/Cock," the giant blue rooster coming to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, visit her exhibition "Multiples" inside the Walker. It's full of smaller-scale monochromatic ready-made multiples. A plush-looking purple hand, fingers slightly bent with palm up, greets visitors upon entering the gallery. A black-painted fly is positioned upright, as if mounted to its podium. Every piece is exactly what it looks like it is, with titles in both German and English. The mono-color casts each object with a sense of the uncanny. ALICIA ELER

Opening Thursday, ends Oct. 15. Walker Art Center, Mpls. $14, walkerart.org

Minnesota raconteur Kevin Kling is famous for his sometimes strange, sometimes magical stories. This week Kling hosts simpatico artist Minton Sparks, a Nashville singer, songwriter and storyteller, for an intimate hootenanny that promises both virtuosity and surprises as these two figures, stars in their own orbits, meet and, potentially, create flashes of light.

Harking back to the era when X Fests and Ozzfests brought Twin Cities metalheads swarming across the St. Croix River, the Northern Invasion Rock Fest returns to Somerset for its third rowdy year. This year's blend of modern and older thrashers includes Soundgarden (pictured), Godsmack, Bush, the Pretty Reckless, Pierce the Veil and In Flames on Saturday, followed by Kid Rock, the Offspring, Papa Roach, Opeth and Gojira on Sunday.

Daryl Hall and John Oates have been sporadically returning to the road together over the past decade and earned a rave reception at the Orpheum in 2010. The Philadelphian collaborators of "Maneater" and "She's Gone" fame are playing a few more oldies on this tour, and they wisely recruited fellow MTV-era dude duo Tears for Fears to join them.

Paul Hindemith was already persona non grata with Germany's Nazi regime when he wrote his dark-hued "Mathis der Maler" Symphony in 1934. Today, it remains a powerful study on how art can reflect and even transcend troubled times. "Mathis der Maler" is the cornerstone of a Minnesota Orchestra program that also includes Mozart's masterly Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola.

After giving their worst Twin Cities performance ever last time in town at First Ave in 2012 — a show full of numerous false starts and technical difficulties — the Jesus & Mary Chain is starting their U.S. tour here, hopefully as a makeup gesture. Long-feuding brothers William and Jim Reid reportedly sobered up and made up in the interim. They certainly sound in fine form on their first album in 19 years, "Damage and Joy."

Los Angeles playwright Wendy Kout wrote for the Robin Williams sitcom "Mork and Mindy" and conceived "Anything But Love" for Jamie Lee Curtis. Her new play, "We Are the Levinsons" crackles with humor while deftly handling some touchy subjects. Robert Dorfman, Melinda Kordich, Nancy Marvy and Adelin Phelps depict a family facing crises with the help of caretaker Grace (Alyssa DiVirgilio).

Twin Cities Ballet takes a deconstructionist approach to the 19th-century comedy "Coppélia." Set in 1920s Paris, TCB calls its production "Coppélia Nouveau." It takes viewers behind the scenes of a fictional ballet company as it stages this classic tale of romance, jealousy, mystery — and an irresistible dancing doll named Coppélia.
