Springs arrives

Prince discovered Kandace Springs' version of Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" on YouTube, reached out to her via Twitter and struck up a friendship before she recorded her debut album, "Soul Eyes." With her alluring alto, the 27-year-old singer-pianist from Nashville sounds like Dionne Warwick in a Norah Jones intimate soul-jazz groove. Produced by jazz-pop maestro Larry Klein, the album boasts the strong original "Novocaine Heart" and a compelling cover of Shelby Lynne's "Thought It Would Be Easier." JON BREAM

After performing at the Basilica Block Party in 2015 just days before issuing their surprise album "Star Wars," Jeff Tweedy and Wilco will finally give Minnesota fans a chance to hear those songs live — and maybe throw in tunes from "Wilco Schmilco," another new LP due Sept. 9. The locally adored rockers have found a waterfront outdoor venue in the Twin Cities, the same site as last summer's mostly well-received Alabama Shakes show.

Mozart's "Don Giovanni" gets revamped into an election-year '80s pop opera for Mixed Precipitation's 8th Picnic Operetta season. One of the best hard-rock bands of the 1990s, the Deftones are finally back for their first big Twin Cities gig in a decade (not counting an underplay show in 2010 at First Avenue). In that time, the group endured the death of bassist Chi Cheng (replaced by Quicksand's Sergio Vega) and a few different hiatuses as frontman Chino Moreno dabbled in side projects. They keep coming back strong, especially in the case of the new one "Gore," one of this year's best metal albums.

The "Third Thursday" program this week includes nature-inspired DIY cyanotypes, plein air painting, photo booth pictures and free admission to "Seeing Nature," a $20 value for adults.

It's the swan song for the Centennial Showboat, the University of Minnesota theater on a riverboat in the Mississippi. The U of M students are reprising the original 1958 show at the venue, "Under the Gaslight," a classic melodrama that gives theatergoers plenty of opportunities to hiss and boo. The between-scene olios are a treat, especially the delightfully campy one about the 12 months of the year with marvelous themed headpieces.
