Hybrid white grapes, many of them with cool-climate, gewürztraminer-like qualities, have fared well in these climes. The reds, not so much. After countless generations of hybridizing, the University of Minnesota released the Marquette red grape in 2006. Not saying it will become another Honeycrisp apple (which the same outfit developed), but the early bottlings indicate that Marquette wines will absolutely be worth tracking. See if you can detect the pinot noir in its heritage. Runner-up: Frontenac Gris
