Raising awareness about Dine Out for Somalia in Minneapolis on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Somali-American restaurant owners in Minnesota have decided to raise funds by donating a portion of their sales from April 7 directly to support famine relief efforts. Nearly a million children could starve to death as famine conditions grip Somalia, South Sudan and Nigeria. Drought, made worse with political upheaval and war, has fueled a humanitarian crisis that threatens the lives of 20 million people.
The world's largest humanitarian crisis in 70 years has been declared in three African countries on the brink of famine.
Chef/owner Alex Roberts has revitalized his 17-year-old operation with the addition of an all-day cafe and a small hotel, and a spruce-up of his dinner-only dining room.
