Big news for Barrio. The hot property, now with two locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul, plans to open a third at 50th and France in Edina by the end of the summer.

While the deal isn't done, co-owner Tim McKee said he's already thinking about tweaking the concept for this location. He said the Edina version will be more "restaurant and dining oriented," and less bar dominated. The Minneapolis and St. Paul Barrios are notoriously packed on the weekends. The party atmosphere is fueled by a massive tequila list and popular cocktails. Maybe the 50th and France crowd isn't ready for that type of rowdiness?

The new spot will most likely carry the name Cocina del Barrio (cocina meaning "kitchen"). McKee wants to expand the food menu with a wood-burning grill (they'll make their own tortillas, too). The space is next to Salut in a real estate office building (5036 S. France Av.) owned by Ralph Burnet's company. McKee said his team hopes to buy the building in the deal. Burnet's son, Ryan, is one of Barrio's main investors.
