J.J. Barea didn't practice during Thursday's light workout at Target Center and Rick Adelman doesn't expect him to play Friday night against the Lakers.

Nikola Pekovic did practice, although the Wolves didn't do much that would have tested his sore and slightly swollen ankle. He said afterward that he expects to play Friday night, when the team will sponsor a "white-out" by setting out 19,000 white Wolves t-shirts on seats for the arriving crowd to wear.

Adelman said the team will recall rookie Malcolm Lee from Sioux Falls in the D League this weekend as insurance, in case Barea is out for a significant time and in case the Wolves sustain other injuries or get other players in foul trouble during games.

He made it sound like they'd use Lee primarily in emergency situations, but added he won't be afraid to play the former UCLA guard who hasn't yet played an NBA game.

Workers were busy laying out those white "white-out" shirts this afternoon after the team finished preparing for a Lakers team that comes to town having lost at Detroit and Washington on back-to-back nights.

Rick Adelman spoke afterward with a group of 10 Spanish coaches who are in town for the week to watch games, pick up pointers and of course watch Ricky Rubio play.

Included in that group is Rubio's first coach, Aito Garcia Reneses, who first saw Ricky play when he was 12, sent him into his first pro game when he was 14 and started Rubio in the 2008 Olympic gold medal game against the United States in Beijing.

Garcia Reneses spoke about his prized pupil after practice on Thursday and you can see a portion of that interview with the Star Tribune -- well, me and Jim Souhan -- attached here on the blog.
