Authorities have identified the Shakopee man killed after his car plunged over the side of the Bloomington Ferry Bridge early Friday morning.
Steven Whiting, 48, was heading south on Hwy. 169 when he lost control of his Buick LeSabre on the icy road, crashed through the guardrail and went off the bridge, according to the State Patrol. The car fell 80 to 100 feet, landing on its roof next to the Minnesota River.
The State Patrol said the incident wasn't reported until about 8:30 a.m. but likely happened earlier that morning or overnight.
The Shakopee crash was one of at least five fatal car crashes on icy and snow-covered roadways across Minnesota since Tuesday.
