A man who was mortally wounded at his south Minneapolis apartment was shot in the abdomen, authorities said Tuesday.

No arrest had been made in the predawn killing of Frank K. Patterson IV, 48, on Monday.

Patterson was shot shortly before 4:30 a.m. in his home in the 2800 block of Cedar Avenue S. He died about 40 minutes later at Hennepin County Medical Center, according to the county medical examiner's office.

Authorities have not addressed a motive.

The shooting, in an apartment building a block north of E. Lake Street, was heard by at least one other building resident.

Jimmy Bostic, who lives upstairs from Patterson's apartment, said in a brief interview that he heard things that drew his attention.

"I saw the end," he said, but declined to elaborate.
