Orrin Hartshorn,
'Grandpa' to Park
Children, Is Dead

Little Folks at Loring Park
Will Miss Familiar Face
and Stories.

Hundreds of little children who gleefully romp into Loring park today will miss a familiar face for their playfellow, "Grandpa" Orrin Hartshorn, a pioneer of 1845, is dead. He died Saturday at his home, 70 East Twelfth street, 85 years old. Surrounded by laughing children "Grandpa " Hartshorn has been a familiar figure in Loring park each afternoon for several years. There were stories of pioneer days and the trip the aged man made from Pennsylvania to Ohio in a prairie schooner in 1845. Then, with a smile on his face, the old man slowly drew from his pocket the inevitable bag of candy to the "ohs" and "ahs" of his little friends. Mr. Hartshorn came to Minneapolis eight years ago, following his retirement from business in Ohio. He was born in Springfield, Pa., January 11, 1835. He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Sidney A. Louis of Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held at the Johnson undertaking parlors Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
