Audition for kitchen or bathroom redo

Tricks of the tradeHate your kitchen? Despise your bathroom? Magnetic Productions will be recruiting for the DIY TV shows "I Hate My Kitchen" and "I Hate My Bath" at the South Minneapolis Housing Fair on Saturday at South High School.

Also at the fair will be more than 80 home-improvement experts, contractors and real estate pros, with exhibits and how-to workshops on everything from green kitchen makeovers to installing glass-block windows.

The free fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3131 19th Av. S., Mpls. For information, go to www.housingfair.org.

Build a basketWhether you have a green thumb -- or a brown one -- Pahl's Market in Apple Valley invites you to Moss Basket Days, where you can learn how to plant and care for moss baskets.

Pahl's will have all the supplies on hand. And if you want to make a basket for Mom, Pahl's is offering a plant-sitting service, to nurture your plantings to maturity until you're ready to pick them up before Mother's Day. Moss Basket Days will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Saturday. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome.

Presley preview First came Elvis-inspired home goods. Now his ex, Priscilla Presley, has lent her name and quirky aesthetic to a new collection of furniture and accessories, created in collaboration with H Studio.

The collection, which will be available later this year, will include two lines, Gothic Modern and Vintage Eclectic, and more than 120 pieces, representing yin and yang, male and female, Presley said. "It has to have balance because a man has to feel as a comfortable as a woman."

Presley, an animal lover, chose three main motifs: horses, doves and butterflies. She also loves crests and armor, which appear in some of the designs, and atypical pairings, such as clear acrylic legs on a suede chair and crystal buttons on tufted pieces. "Shlomi [H Studio founder/artist Shlomi Haziza] and I didn't want to do the norm," Presley said. "He has that out-of-the-box sensibility, and I wanted to work with someone who would do that with me."
