OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The attorney for a reputed ex-Mafia captain who told the FBI the remains of former Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa are buried in a field in suburban Detroit says his client still believes the information he gave is accurate.
David Chasnick represents 85-year-old Tony Zerilli. Chasnick says the 2 ½-day excavation of an Oakland Township field by about 40 FBI agents is commendable, but may have been too limited in scope. Agents called off the search Wednesday morning.
Hoffa disappeared in 1975 and his whereabouts is an enduring mystery.
Zerilli says he was told that Hoffa was buried under a barn in the field about 30 miles northwest of Detroit.
Chasnick says Zerilli still believes Hoffa's remains are in the field.
