On Thursday, Northwest Airlines started charging some customers a $15 fee for checking a first bag.
But many fliers are exempt, including:
• Frequent-flier Elite passengers.
• First-class travelers.
• Full-fare coach passengers.
• Customers who bought tickets before July 10.
• Military members traveling on orders.
