Indecisive 80-degree weather drizzled rain before wind gusts pushed away clouds and revealed the Mankato sun.

Quarterbacks weren't so tentative in an afternoon practice featuring plays on both sides. Teddy Bridgewater's two touchdowns, including a deep shot to receiver Stefon Diggs over rookie cornerback Mackensie Alexander, were paired with two interceptions in full team drills.

Here are some snippets from Thursday's practice:

Trae Waynes stays busy
In a rare move, Zimmer decided to rest veteran cornerback Terence Newman for much of Thursday's practice. That allowed second-year cornerback Trae Waynes to play opposite Xavier Rhodes for much of the day. And he stood out from the start. On the first play of a full team drill, Waynes jumped a hitch route by Diggs to intercept Bridgewater.

Two-minute highs and lows
The final 11-on-11 session was a two-minute drill that started with a bang. Receiver Charles Johnson snagged a Bridgewater pass on a shallow crossing route, speeding past safety Andrew Sendejo before he was dragged to the ground inside the 10-yard line by safety Harrison Smith. After receiver Adam Thielen was ruled out of bounds on a would-be touchdown grab in the corner of the end zone, Bridgewater was intercepted by cornerback Xavier Rhodes to end the drill.

Incoming!
Thielen is well known as a Minnesota native and graduate of the Mankato university that annually hosts Vikings training camp. But he didn't have a great outing Thursday on his former home fields, dropping a Bridgewater pass early in a full team session. He then struggled to corral a pass in one-on-one red zone drills between receivers and defensive backs, letting one slip through his grasp before kicking the nearest pylon in frustration.

The drops and a bobble
Balls hit the grass more often than normal as Thielen, tight end MyCole Pruitt, Rhodes and others let would-be receptions and interceptions bounce off their mitts. Undrafted receiver Marken Michel nearly continued the gaffes, bobbling a pass in red zone drills before corralling the touchdown against safety Antone Exum Jr.

Camp chatter
"You can't put the ball on top of the pylon!" – A NFL official yelled from across the end zone to Diggs, who drew a flag after catching a touchdown pass against Rhodes.

Injury report
Receiver Cordarrelle Patterson (shoulder) and running back Jerick McKinnon (undisclosed) were well enough to return to the morning walkthrough, but did not participate in the afternoon padded practice. Tight end Rhett Ellison (knee), guard Mike Harris (illness) and quarterback Taylor Heinicke (foot) also remain sidelined.
