The Dakota Valley Symphony will play its final concert of the 2014-15 season Sunday at the Ames Center.

The orchestra will perform Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf," Sibelius' Symphony No. 5 and Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1, Third Movement. The piece by Chopin will feature 18-year-old pianist Jonathan Mattson of Rochester.

The concert begins at 2 p.m. at the Ames Center, 12600 Nicollet Av. S., Burnsville. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased through the Ames Center box office, through Ticketmaster online or by phone at 1-800-982-2787.

Choir to perform 'Sights and Stories'

The choir Eagan Women of Note will perform "Sights and Stories" on May 17 at Peace Church, 2180 Glory Dr., Eagan.

The 4 p.m. concert will feature "melodies and images that appeal to one's inner child," according to a news release about the event. Tickets are $5. They can be purchased from choir members or at the door. There will also be a raffle for a basket of children's books.

'Wilder Octet' plays music with humor

An ensemble will perform the music of Alec Wilder on Sunday in the latest installment of the Coffee Concert Series at the Lakeville Area Arts Center, 20965 Holyoke Av.

The show begins at 2 p.m. and features 10 short octets by Wilder "with titles that give a clue as to Wilder's quirky sense of humor," including "Neurotic Goldfish" and "Dance Man Buys a Farm." The musicians will also play some of Wilder's work for smaller ensembles.

"We've had a great time rehearsing and immersing ourselves in Wilder's music," said Carrie Vecchione, oboist and Coffee Concert Series founder. "He has a distinctive, original compositional voice. It's wonderful music with charm, wit and appeal."

Handbell ensemble concert on May 3

The Bells of the Bluffs Handbell Ensemble, a group that includes ringers from Hastings and Hampton, will play a spring concert May 3 in Bloomington.

The program, "Handbell Musical Montage," will use handbells, handchimes and a bass note percussion system. The group will play more than a dozen songs, including "Peal con Brio," "Song of Peace," "Good Vibrations," and "Down by the Riverside." The concert begins at 4 p.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 1701 W. Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington.
