TROUBLE IN PARADISE

Continuing: Fans of Minnesota's own twisted sister Faye Passow would follow her work to the ends of the earth. Or at least to Maiden Rock, Wis., where her new "Trouble in Paradise" lithographs offer temptations through Dec. 28. You remember Faye? She's the arty impressario who designed tea towels sporting maps of Minnesotan's regional hot dishes (wild rice up north; hot dogs in the south; Tater Tots everywhere). A farm girl at heart, Passow never outgrew her capacity for hard, under-rewarded work, which explains her dedication to lithography, a process that involves drawing on stones, swabbing them with ink and water, and then printing pictures from them. Passow's "Super Woman" (shown here) sails over an urban landscape exploding with such familiar issues as debt, depression, raging hormones and passive-aggression. For the new show, she's produced puzzling landscapes of brooding trees and broken turf sprouting saplings and wild flowers. As an eco-arts gallery, Swan Song contributes part of its profits to projects that help protect or restore wildlife habitat of the Mississippi River. (9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thu.-Sun. Ends Dec. 28, Free. Swan Song Contemporary Arts, Hwy. 35, Maiden Rock, Wis. 612-250-9222.)
