Harmony in Red
Opening Friday: For her first solo show, Minneapolis-based artist Paige Dansinger embarks on a decade-spanning conceptual conversation with Henri Matisse’s celebrated 1927 painting “Reclining Odalisque, or Harmony in Red.” Boldly inserting herself into the painting in place of Matisse’s somnambulant seminude, Dansinger aims to “celebrate an empowered female identity while simultaneously allowing for a raw vulnerability.” The show includes Dansinger’s digital interpretations of the painting developed with #DrawArt, an iPad program she helped devise for museum use. Opening-night festivities will include Dansinger posing in a storefront re-creation of the Matisse painting while drawing on her iPad. (Opening 7-10 p.m. Fri. Free. SooLOCAL, 3506 Nicollet Av. S., Mpls. Ends Sept. 15. 612-871-2263 or www.soovac.org)
