Siberia: Imagined and Reimagined

Opening: Siberia is by reputation even colder than Minnesota. Imagine. Siberia definitely has more reindeer, more people and more land. In more than 100 photos dating from the 1870s to now, "Siberia: Imagined and Reimagined" documents life in a forbidding and once forbidden part of the world. It features color photos taken in 1912 on the Trans-Siberian Railway and pictures of "Newlyweds" like this couple snapped by Anastasia Rudenko in a suburb of Novosibirsk in 2010. An indoor/outdoor preview party Friday includes an ice bar and dancing. (Party 7-10 p.m. Fri. is free but RSVP required to wamrsvp@umn.edu. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat.-Sun., 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tue., Thu. & Fri., 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wed. Free. Ends May 18.
