2010/11 MCKNIGHT VISUAL ARTISTS FELLOWSHIP EXHIBITION

Opening Friday: Advance word says that this year's McKnight artists have thrown huge energy into elaborate projects. Turning anagrams into large-scale graphics, Matthew Bakkom has produced a billboard-sized display, seen here, incorporating the words "Hustling/Sunlight." (Try rearranging the letters.) Cameron Keith Gainer, best known locally for his lake monster, "Minnie," produced a digital film featuring an Olympic swimmer in a bioluminescent Puerto Rican bay. Aaron Spangler will install a 10-foot-tall, 18-foot-long linen wall hanging incorporating wax rubbings from a carved wooden panel. And Andrea Stanislav plans to combine a three-channel video filmed in Dubai with a 30-foot sculptural interpretation of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Don't miss the chance to check out their ambition at the opening party.
