Mary Ellen Mark: Seen Behind the Scene

Opening Thursday: When photographer credits roll, Mary Ellen Mark's go on and on. Readers of American Photo magazine once dubbed her the "Most Influential Woman Photographer of All Time." She's published 18 books and gotten a bundle of awards and fellowships. Her bread-and-butter photography has been published in Life, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and other periodicals. And her archives are so deep that for her newest book she pulled together 40 years of candid behind-the-scenes pictures of directors (Federico Fellini, Mike Nichols, Woody Allen) and actors (Marlon Brando, Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Bridges, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Donald Sutherland, Helen Mirren). Mark will be in Minneapolis this week to launch the book and open a show of her star-studded photos from it. (6-8 p.m. Thu., free opening reception, Weinstein Gallery, 908 W. 46th St., Mpls.)
