True North

Opening Friday: Spanning Canada from Nova Scotia to British Columbia, the nine artists in "True North" are recognized internationally as leaders in the field of contemporary ceramics. Their wares range from a handsome serving dish by Bruce Cochrane to a fanciful "vase" that looks like a disintegrating blue basket perched on a gold-luster stand, by Alwyn O'Brien. Other featured artists — who range from seasoned experts to promising novices — are Robert Archambeau, Michael Flaherty, Leopold Foulem, Rory MacDonald, Amélie Proulx, Xanthe Isbister and Brendan Lee Satish Tang, whose "Manga Ormolu 5.0- N" is shown here. A companion show, "2014 Regis Master: Walter Ostrom," features pottery by Ostrom, an internationally known master of tin glazing, an exacting albeit fragile method of finishing pottery that was especially popular in medieval and Renaissance Europe before ceramists there figured out how to produce porcelain. (Opening reception 6-8 p.m. Fri. Free. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Fri.-Sat. & Tue.-Wed., noon 4 p.m. Sun., 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thu. through Nov. 9.
