Around the league

• With the emergence of rookie running back Devin Singletary, the Bills cut 31-year-old veteran LeSean McCoy. McCoy's 10,606 yards rushing rank 25th on the career list and fourth among active players.

• The Eagles waived their two top rushers from last season (Josh Adams and Wendell Smallwood) and a starting offensive lineman (Stefen Wisniewski) on their Super Bowl championship team. Quarterback Clayton Thorson, a fifth-round pick out of Northwestern, also was released.

• Undrafted rookie Jamie Gillan beat out veteran Britton Colquitt for the Browns' punting job. Colquitt was a Pro Bowl alternate last season and has spent nine seasons in the NFL.

• Kicker Cody Parkey, who hasn't found a home since missing a 43-yard field goal in the waning seconds of the Bears' wild-card loss to the Eagles last season, had a tryout Saturday with the Jets.

• The Browns acquired guard Justin McCray in a trade with the Packers and wide receiver Taywan Taylor in a trade with the Titans. The Browns gave up a 2020 seventh-round draft pick in each deal, a person familiar with the moves said.

• The Bengals decided to keep injured receiver A.J. Green on the active roster to open the season, hoping he can return from ankle surgery in less than eight weeks.

• Chiefs wide receiver De'Anthony Thomas was suspended for the season opener for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

• Dallas released former Vikings safety George Iloka, one of their most notable signings in free agency.

• The Patriots released backup quarterback Brian Hoyer and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas among their moves. Hoyer's release gives the job of backing up 20-year veteran Tom Brady to rookie Jarrett Stidham, a fourth-round draft pick out of Auburn. Stidham completed 61 of 90 passes in the preseason for 731 yards, with four touchdown passes and one interception.

• Starting Patriots center David Andrews was placed on injured reserve after suffering blood clots in a lung last week.

• Broncos General Manager John Elway is looking for a quarterback to back up Joe Flacco after jettisoning Kevin Hogan and Brett Rypien and amid plans to place second-round draft pick Drew Lock on injured reserve.
