Two men carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint in South St. Paul on Saturday evening, then led police on a chase through several nearby suburbs before colliding with a police car and being arrested at a home near the start of the chase.

No injuries were reported, police said.

According to police:

A female driver told authorities that two suspects with a handgun forced her from her vehicle about 6:25 p.m. in the 400 block of Camber Avenue. A police officer spotted the vehicle about 3 miles to the southwest, traveling near Babcock Trail and 50th Street East in Inver Grove Heights.

The driver sped away and officers pursued him into St. Paul, Mendota Heights, West St. Paul and South St. Paul. At roughly 7 p.m., the suspects collided with a South St. Paul squad car and abandoned the stolen vehicle in the 500 block of 1st Avenue S. in South St. Paul.

Witnesses said that the suspects entered a residence in the 400 block of Camber. Officers surrounded the residence and attempted to persuade the suspects to surrender. After several hours, one of the men and others in the residence exited without incident, but the second man refused.

Law enforcement officers entered the home and arrested the suspect shortly before midnight.
