QUICK Q&A: MEGAN MAKI, APPLE VALLEY JUNIORMaki was a part of Apple Valley's first-place 4x100 meter relay team at last season's state meet. Maki, who also plays soccer for the Eagles, plans on running the 4x100 relay, the 4x200 relay and other sprint events this year.

What do you attribute your success to? My great coaches that helped me improve throughout the season, working with teammates on relays that helped me push myself.

What are your individual goals this season? To push myself and just get better every day and just work hard.

What are your team expectations this year? We're going to have a pretty good team this year. I just want everyone to have fun and do their best, have dedication and passion for track.

What is the most challenging aspect of track? You get super nervous before [a race] and you have to calm yourself down. It's definitely quite nerve-racking. It's the best feeling once you finish a race and you know you did well.

What did you do in the offseason to prepare for track this year? Sometimes I go out for a run. It's mainly soccer, which keeps me in shape.

What is your greatest high school sports moment so far? Probably breaking a record for the 4x100-meter at sections.

What do you hope to accomplish before you graduate? It would be cool to make it to another section final or state for soccer. [For] track, just keep going, accomplishing more and breaking new records.

What do you see yourself doing 10 years down the road? Going to college, hopefully, for either soccer or track. I want to do something with athletic training or in a medical field.

Any hobbies off of the track? I just love hanging out with friends. I enjoy playing soccer, and enjoy going out on the lake in the summer.
