Apple Valley police shot a 48-year-old man who pulled a gun on officers responding to a domestic dispute call Sunday, the police department reported.

Chief Jon Rechtzigel said Sunday night that the man's injuries were life-threatening without specifying where on the body he was shot or how many times.

Police would not release his name or his specific address.

The chief said several officers responded to the domestic call involving a woman and the man, who reportedly pulled a gun on the officers as they were questioning him.

The chief would not elaborate on how many officers fired or how many shots were fired.

He said any officer involved in the shooting would be placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the department.

The shooting took place about 5:40 p.m. at a home in the 13900 block of Herald Court in Apple Valley.

The wounded man was taken by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
