The Anoka-Hennepin CI (cognitively impaired) floor hockey team is poised to win its third consecutive adapted floor hockey state title and seventh consecutive team championship overall.
The Mustangs (13-0) open play at 5 p.m. Friday at Bloomington Jefferson as the heavy favorites. They ride a 43-game winning streak going back almost three years. The Mustangs have been equally proficient in soccer and softball, winning six consecutive titles.
Once again, the Mustangs will lean on Tyler Kurkowski (52 goals) and Zach Theroux (40).
But Anoka-Hennepin boasts strength in numbers. Austin Fraser has scored 24 goals with Cole Denny (18), Dillon Domeier (13) and Krystal Betzold (10) also in double digits.
The Mustangs have outscored opponents 187-43.
In the PI (physically impaired) Division, Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound-Westonka (12-0-1) is using defense to defend their state title. The Robins have allowed only 17 goals, fewest in team history.
But they can score. Junior Mike Madson has 113 career goals, tying him for most in program history. Madson, in his third year, will surpass two players who each built their totals over six seasons.
