An absolutely brutal call in the Twins/White Sox game

Nothing like getting a call right, the reversing it to make it wrong.

September 2, 2009 at 6:24PM

Not sure who has access to a TV this afternoon, but Michael Cuddyer made a great catch leaping up by the baggie with one out in the top of the sixth, which was correctly ruled an out. That was, until Ozzie Guillen complained and it was changed to a double. Needless to say, Ron Gardenhire was not pleased.

In fairness to the crew making the call, the ball squirted around in Cuddyer's glove a bit, which perhaps made it look deceptively like it hit the baggie first. But four replays were 100 percent conclusive. Instead of two outs and nobody on, Brian Duensing had to pitch in a jam with one out and a runner on second in a scoreless game. He pitched around it beautifully to get out of the inning, but it probably cost him several pitches and beads of sweat.
