Fall is here and frost is not too far behind.

For some plants, the growing season is also most over. Our heat loving herbs and veggies will not be around much longer. Last week, my potatoes were vigorous and green. Now they are wilted and yellow. My cucumbers are kaput.

Other plants are still going strong. Brussels sprouts, greens and parsley are quite happy in a little cold. And, I will have a decent crop of fall raspberries -- as long as the squirrels stay busy in someone else's yard.

When it comes to putting the garden to bed, I have a "wait and see" approach. I'll pull out a spent tomato plant, but leave neighboring leeks in the ground until November. I like a little taste of summer in late fall.

Other gardeners, like my father, pick a weekend and remove everything all at once. "I'm done. Time to move onto the next project."

So how do you put your garden to bed -- All at once or slowly through the fall? Is one approach better than another? Or is it all about time?
