Why the team won: The Lightning graduated five seniors from their third-place state tournament team of 2016-17. Heading into this season they were still expected to be a top-five team. Eastview then accomplished a school-first perfect season (32-0). The route wasn't easy, either. They bested state tournament runner-up Hopkins twice and third-place finisher Lakeville North three times. The Lightning have made seven consecutive state tournament appearances, and finished in the top four in each.
What was said: "This senior class was truly special this year. I've never been part of a team with a senior class as great as this class. … Our seniors really modeled this and made being in the gym every day so fun.
