The Grantland.com NBA draft preview is up. Grantland, of course, is run by Bill Simmons, who never lets an opportunity to either make fun of or rip David Kahn pass him by. Not saying there haven't been reasons. Just saying.

As such, the preview -- written by "Grantland Staff" and not attributed to any one writer -- should be taken with the requisite grain of salt by any Wolves fan. That said, in the midst of the Kahn-bashing, it contains this paragraph about Kevin Love (which we don't necessarily disagree with):

Kevin Love, the team's best player, had the third-highest rebounding rate and the fourth-highest PER (player efficiency rating) in the league. Although it could be argued that his rebounding stats are padded by the fact he plays on the same team with Michael Beasley, proud owner of the NBA's 158th-best rebounding rate, Love has established that he could be the second-, maybe third-best player on a championship-caliber team.

Let's assume Love remains the same player he was last season, with some small improvements. And let's assume -- deep breath -- the Wolves become a team capable of winning 55 games in a season and, yes, getting in the mix to win a championship. Can you see that happening with Love as the best player on the team? Can you see him being a solid second-best player? Or is he the third man?

Clearly he was the best player on a 17-win team. If the stakes rise, where does he necessarily land in the pecking order?
