Scott Weiland rocked with STP in St. Paul in 2008

They're back: Aerosmith rebounding from Steven Tyler's shoulder injury last summer at Sturgis, Smashing Pumpkins revived with Billy Corgan's new sidekicks and Stone Temple Pilots reunited with a hopefully sober Scott Weiland. All these favorites are hitting the road this summer but only STP is coming to the Twin Cities, on Aug. 13 at Roy Wilkins Auditorium (where Weiland and crew gave us a nice nostalgia fix in 2008). Following a few previously announced shows in Europe, Aerosmith will play at least 18 North America concerts, starting July 23 in Oakland. Closest Midwest dates are Omaha on Aug. 19 and Chicago on Aug. 22. Too bad that the Boston boys are booked on Aug. 28 because they would have been a good fit for the still-available date at the Minnesota State Fair grandstand. Anybody got any suggestions for the state fair slot? Corgan will play several Smashing Pumpkins club shows in July (plus a festival in Louisville) with the new rhythm section of Mike Byrne on drums and Nicole Fiorentino on bass as well as new guitarist Jeff Schroeder. After releasing a respectable comeback album last month and performing at a series of European festivals this month, Stone Temple Pilots will hit the road in the States on Aug. 7, at Denver's revered Red Rocks Amphitheater. The St. Paul gig will be the third concert on the U.S. leg – and the first indoor show.
