Chris Johnson is the subject of the cover story in the latest edition of The Sporting News and in the feature on the Tennessee Titans star he makes it clear there should be no debate when it comes to who should be considered the NFL's top running back.

"You've still got people debating -- is it Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson?" Johnson said. "No way possible there should be a debate about who's the best running back in the NFL."

It's interesting because last year Johnson became the sixth NFL player to rush for 2,000 yards in a season -- a figure that Peterson has long made clear he wants to reach. The Sporting News polls four current or former players to ask them who they feel will be the next back to reach 2,000 yards.

Christian Okoye, Frank Gore, Jamal Anderson and Fred Jackson all point to Peterson as their choice.

Johnson finished with an NFL-leading 2,006 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns last season. Peterson had 1,383 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns last year after leading the NFL with 1,760 yards rushing in 2008.
