Heath at a glance

As a player: A striker for Stoke City and Everton, Heath tallied 87 goals in 12 seasons from 1978-89. He commanded a then-club record 700,000 pounds to join Everton in 1982. Played in Spain and with other English clubs through 1997.

As a coach: Managed English sides at Burnley, Sheffield United and Coventry City

Personal: Nickname "Inchy" owes to his 5-6 frame. Married with two children. Coached his son Harrison at Orlando.

United key dates

Dec. 13: Expansion draft of players made available by other MLS teams. Atlanta, which enters MLS with Minnesota in 2017, holds the first pick. Minnesota drafts second. The teams alternate picks for the remainder of the five-round draft.

Jan. 13, 2017: College SuperDraft. Minnesota picks first.

Jan. 23: Training camps open. United has not said publicly where it plans to train.

March: Regular-season matches typically begin. Minnesota will play its home matches at TCF Bank Stadium.

2018: United is expected to move its new stadium in St. Paul.
