A woman died after being struck by a freight train late Sunday morning in Anoka. The incident disrupted Northstar passenger rail service in the area, officials said.

Anoka County emergency dispatch communication starting at 9:55 a.m. indicated that a young woman was struck by a train and received cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Metro Transit's emergency dispatch identified the train involved as belonging to BNSF. A spokeswoman for the rail line confirmed the incident and said early Sunday afternoon that the woman had died. Her identity and what led her to be on the tracks have yet to be released.

Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla said Northstar riders were diverted to buses until regular service resumed around noon.

Northstar riders were notified of the disruption through Twitter, station platform announcements and e-mailed rider alerts, Padilla said.
