THE Anthony Barr file

Position: Outside linebacker

Drafted: ninth overall

School: UCLA • Ht: 6-5 Wt: 255

Accolades: Two-time All-Pac-12 first-team selection, 2013 All-America first team by seven publications, 2013 finalist for Butkus, Lombardi and Bednarik awards

Stats: In 13 starts as a senior at right outside linebacker, Barr ranked second in the country with four fumbles recovered and fifth with five forced fumbles, ninth with 20 tackles for loss and 18th with 10 sacks. He finished with 65 tackles (42 solo). As a junior, he started 14 games at right outside linebacker in his first season at the position. He led the Pac-12 with 21 tackles for loss and ranked third with 13.5 sacks. He played in 12 games as a sophomore fullback and 12 games as a freshman fullback.

Strengths: Barr only played linebacker for two seasons at UCLA but quickly became one of the best in college. Playing in a 3-4 defense, Barr is very athletic and can be used as an outside linebacker and defensive end on third down situations.

Weakness: Barr is still raw at the position and will need to continue to develop at linebacker. Technique is the biggest area of emphasis, and Vikings coach Mike Zimmer and linebackers coach Adam Zimmer will have plenty of work ahead in that area to mold him into a starting outside linebacker.
