"Suffocate" Runway Show

Who: Laura Fulk, a three-time Voltage alum, presents her first solo show.

Concept: "The idea of suffocating due to outside influences in nature and society. And then, in turn, escaping and catching one's breath," Fulk said. With art by painter Melissa Breitenfeldt and tattoo artist Jay Langer digitally printed onto eco-friendly fabrics, Fulk captures the mood of the atomic era that lasted from the 1940s to the 1950s.

Shop: Samples ($175 to $300) will be for sale on her website and custom orders are available.

Who: Kerry Riley

What: A dozen models dressed in leotards and bodysuits with tap shoes will parade through Minneapolis. "You'll hear them coming," Riley said.

Concept: Challenged by the economic climate, Riley is creating new designs, mostly leotards, from fabrics she has. "With no budget, it made sense for me to focus on small pieces," she said.

Bands will be dressed by Standard Issue Clothing and Branch Office Design, Grayline Clothing, Jenny Carle Designs, Jodelle Gerdes and Emily Melchert.

Bonus: There will be a pop-up store at First Avenue following the event, so you can purchase items right off the runway and check out other accessories created by the designers.
