Feb. 7, 1867 Laura Ingalls Wilder, the second child of Charles and Caroline Ingalls, is born near Pepin, Wis.

1932 First book is published in the main series: "Little House in the Big Woods."

1943 Last book is published in the main series: "These Happy Golden Years."

Feb. 10, 1957 Laura Ingalls Wilder dies in Mansfield, Mo., at age 90.

Sept. 11, 1974 "Little House on the Prairie" premieres on NBC, starring Michael Landon as Pa and Melissa Gilbert as Laura.

1975 Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum opens in Walnut Grove, Minn. Japanese animated spinoff, "Laura the Prairie Girl," is released.

March 23, 1983 NBC's "Little House on the Prairie" TV series ends after nine seasons.

July 1, 1991 Michael Landon, who played Pa on the NBC show for its first eight seasons, dies of pancreatic cancer.

Jan. 9, 2007 "Little Mosque on the Prairie" premieres on Canadian TV and creates a stir. The show -- which explores a Muslim community in a small town -- appropriates the "Little House" title but has nothing to do with the books.

July 24, 2008 The Guthrie Theater announces it will extend the run of "Little House on the Prairie," a new musical, by two weeks until Oct. 19, due to high ticket demand.

July 26, 2008 Previews for "Little House" start at the Guthrie.
