Four new movies opening hope to pull in audiences this weekend -- and some are actually worth the price of admission.

STEP UP 2 THE STREETS

Using a number as a homonym? How very cutting-edge. In 1984. As is this story of a rebellious street dancer partnering with a privileged ballerina from an elite arts school. Be advised that this sequel to 2006's "Step Up" lacks that movie's main draw, the magnetic Channing Tatum.

THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES

A spirited if somewhat schematic adventure about brothers (both played by Freddie Highmore) who discover a fantasy world near an ancestor's rural home. The solid cast (David Straithairn and Joan Plowright on camera, voice work by Seth Rogen and Martin Short) elevates the proceedings.

DEFINITELY, MAYBE

Divorcing dad Ryan Reynolds tells daughter Abigail Breslin a bedtime story about adults and falling in love to explain why couples don't always make it until Death Do Them Part. An above-average serving of romantic comedy from the makers of "Notting Hill" and "Love, Actually."

JUMPER

Hayden Christensen stars as a young man who discovers that his ability to leap across space and time puts him in the crosshairs of the feds. Stylishly directed by Doug Liman, one of the few moviemakers to combine hipness ("Swingers," "Go") with hits ("The Bourne Identity," "Mr. and Mrs. Smith").
