Black ice was definitely a potential on Thursday morning, but that didn't seem to have a barring on the drive to work. It was just the average type crashes that led to big tie-ups.

Commuters in the northwest metro found traffic on eastbound 94 locked up through Maple Grove and Brooklyn Park. A wreck that took out the left lane at Hemlock Lane had traffic parked as far back as 101st Avenue between 7:45 and 8:15 a.m.

In Minneapolis, a wreck on eastbound 94 at 1st Avenue caused a good amount of stagnation just around 8 a.m. Traffic came to a standstill north of Olson Hwy. and remained nose to nose over to 35W.

A couple car fires, one on westbound 94 at Dale Street and one on southbound 35E at Cliff Road, attracted a bit of attention. And so did a vehicle that was dangling off a cliff at Mississippi Regional Park at 53rd and Lyndale Avenues N. The word is the driver did get out of the vehicle uninjured.

A fire at a cremation facility in Ramsey had Hwy. 47 shut down north of Old Viking Blvd. for a couple hours. The highway has since reopened.

That's it for today. Friday promises to be warmer, but with that comes the possibility for snow for the morning rush hour.
