An 8-year-old girl in Albert Lea, Minn., died after she was hit by a vehicle while riding her bike Saturday morning, police said.

Sophie Stultz was hit by a sport-utility vehicle driven by a 70-year-old Albert Lea man. His name has not been released.

Albert Lea police were called to the intersection of Frank Hall Drive and E. 8th Street about 11:30 a.m. Saturday on a report of a "car vs. bicycle crash." They are continuing to investigate the incident.

The girl was taken to the Mayo Clinic in Albert Lea, where she died of her injuries.

She was the daughter of Sarah Stultz, managing editor of the Albert Lea Tribune, and her husband, Jason. They also have a son, Landon.

Sarah Stultz said her daughter was a shining light in the lives of many. She issued a statement which said the family is relying on their faith, friends, relatives and community for strength in dealing with the loss of Sophie.

As of Monday, a GoFundMe page started for the family had raised more than $13,400 in one day.
