Black ice forms when the air temperature is warmer than the pavement, which causes moisture to rapidly freeze and create a thin and transparent layer of ice on the roads. With more vehicles on the road today and current temperatures between -15 and -10 degrees, look out.
MnDOT says bridges, overpasses and tunnels are places where black ice is most likely to form.
