A 53-year-old man wounded when someone opened fire near a north Minneapolis bus stop was among at least five people shot in separate incidents around the city on Thursday, police said.

The man was shot shortly after 10 a.m. as he waited for the bus at a stop near the corner of Fremont and Dowling avenues N., next to a Super USA convenience store, according to police. Reports suggest he was shot in the nose.

Bullets also shattered the glass of the bus shelter he was standing next to.

The man, whose identity was withheld by police, was taken to North Memorial Medical Center and is expected to survive. Less than half an hour later, three men — ages 21, 25 and 24 — were arrested in connection with the crime. One of the men had a warrant out for his arrest.

Another shooting incident occurred in the Central neighborhood at 12:05 p.m., when a 50-year-old man was shot as he stood near the corner of 22nd Street and Elliot Avenue S., according to an incident report.

Shortly thereafter, a 21-year-old North Side man was wounded in shooting that occurred in the 2800 block of Aldrich Avenue N., about a block from his home. The victim was later taken to North Memorial, where his condition was unknown.

Two men, both 21, were wounded when gunfire erupted about 11:48 p.m. in the 700 block of E. Lake Street, police said. Neither was injured critically.

No arrests were announced in that incident.

Two-hundred and five people have been shot across Minneapolis through Tuesday, the last day for which reliable data were available, a 34 percent increase over the number of shooting victims this time last year.
